Re-imagining Rural Church

November Update 2009.

Since Sept we have been pleased with progress in a number of areas.

·         Toddlers has begun to gather momentum with a number of folk now willing to help with co-ordinating. This gives more opportunity for conversations for the ‘why’ behind our involvement and the kind of community we are trying to facilitate.

·         Computer club – we have at last received the syllabus – many thanks to the Southampton computer group for their help. We are early days and talk in the village is still gathering momentum but 3 more individuals have expressed interest. We are wanting to put some thought into the ‘quiet zone’.

·         Building – The idea of moving to the youth centre seems to have stalled on two fronts at the moment. Steering group were unsure of this step, and there also is an issue with the planning application for the new entrance, which has caused some upset in the community. We clearly need to tread very carefully here in what is becoming a controversial issue – being agents of good news and reconciliation.

·         WhizzBang –this is a joint Anglican/Baptist venture as the parish have now acknowledge our part in helping lead this. This gives us scope for being a greater part of its development as a church for folk who have little or no church history or contact in the village. Danny is coming to the end of his Fresh Expressions training with the diocese and hopes to feed this into the group leadership.

Other activities continue without major changes .

Please Pray For…

·         Church@home – when is it right to start this – Does it need a formal start?

·         Publicising and expanding the computer club.

·         Making the most of Christmas – Event at the Chapel as part of 1st Thursday. Work with the Parish on Seeker Friendly Services as part of Whizzbang.

·         Longer Term - Looking at the summer and clubs/events for families.
